The Mooresville Downtown Commission (MDC) has earned the “Main Street America Accredited Community” designation for the fifth consecutive year. The accredited status is the top tier of recognition by the national Main Street program that a downtown organization can receive.
Main Street America, the leader in revitalizing historic downtowns, grants the annual distinction only to downtown programs that demonstrate effective commitment to comprehensive community transformation, diversified funding, and preservation-based economic development with verifiable results.
The MDC is one of only 838 downtown organizations in the U.S. to qualify for the 2026 accreditation status, awarded for achievements in 2025 efforts. The MDC has maintained its accredited status since 2022 by consistently meeting the rigorous requirements for strategic planning with responsible growth and the applied implementation, followed by measurable impacts.
“Our Board of Directors, staff, committee members, volunteers, and community partners have all helped contribute to the development, execution, and assessment of the strategies and standards required to maintain this distinguished recognition for the last five years.” said Kim Saragoni, MDC Board chair and a longt-time downtown business owner. “We are extremely proud of all we have accomplished. We have worked diligently to build strong foundations, providing tools, resources, and inclusive leadership that encourages success for those who choose to invest their passion and entrepreneurship in Downtown Mooresville. We will continue in our efforts to drive our vibrant and thriving Downtown community forward.”
Dennis Cowardin, MDC Board member, said the nonprofit meticulously adheres to the standards set by the national and state Main Street programs.
“Within those parameters, we also conscientiously work to develop viable programs incorporating approaches specific to the passionate entrepreneurs and property owners that make up the heart and soul of Downtown Mooresville. We are ecstatic to receive continued acknowledgement of our hard work!”
