A record number of participants turned out on Saturday morning for the 16th Annual Timmy Belcher Memorial Rainbow Kidz Run to support Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County’s pediatric grief support program.

More than 500 people registered for the event in downtown Statesville, and the vast majority showed up despite the chilly weather.

“Today, you showed up big time,” Rainbow Kidz Executive Director LeeAnn Darty told the crowd of runners and walkers prior to the start of the 5K, 10K and Fun Run. “You remind us that no child or family has to walk this journey alone. … You help us feel seen, heard and supported.”

Rainbow Kidz is a free program that provides group therapy and individual counseling to 800 children and teens who have lost a loved one.
