Statesville High School’s football stadium was full of eager Special Olympians, along with supportive volunteers, teachers, students, and family members, on Wednesday morning for the Day 2 of the Spring Games.
High School students from across the county and adult participants competed in racing, jumping, javelin throw, a tennis ball toss, Connect Four, Ker Plunk and more. Participants were presented with ribbons for their achievements.
Statesville Mayor Doug Hendrix was grateful to be a part of the special day, applauding the efforts of everyone who worked to make the day memorable for participants.
“There’s a lot of love in this,” Hendrix said. “This is what happens when you love so much you can’t just hold it in.”
Bobbi Williams, Special Olympics coordinator of Iredell County, was busy but pleased with how smooth the event was.
“It’s been a great day,” she said. “We’re thankful for all the help from our community partners and everyone who made it happen.”
