A Troutman man faces more than a dozen charges in connection with a series of incidents in which vehicles were damaged by rounds fired from a pellet gun on Perth Road over the past few months.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of James Ray Bost, 58, of Perth Road, Troutman, in a news release.
Bost was arrested on Tuesday, May 5, as deputies were executing a search warrant at his home. The arrest marked the culmination of an ICSO investigation that began in February when deputies first received reports of vehicles being damaged in the area of the 1000 block of Perth Road, Campbell said.
As part of the investigation, detectives conducted numerous interviews with residents who live in the area. Based upon information received from these interviews, detectives identified Bost as a suspect in the case, according to the news release.
Detectives conducted an extensive operation in the area utilizing digital surveillance equipment to aid in the investigation, Campbell said.
On Saturday May 2, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office received another report from a motorist who stated their vehicle had been hit with an object while driving in the same area, according to the news release. After reviewing several hours of data the surveillance equipment, detectives determined the pellet rounds were fired at the vehicle by Bost from his driveway, Campbell said.
ICSO detectives obtained warrants for Bost’s arrest along with a search warrant for his residence at 1022 Perth Road.
While executing the search warrant on Tuesday, detectives recovered a BB rifle, along with other weapons capable of firing BBs or pellets, and numerous pellets, according to the news release.
Bost was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. He was charged with eight counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon and eight counts of Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property. Magistrate T. Thompson issued a $50,000 secured bond on these charges.
“The detectives involved in this case put in a lot of hard work and time to conduct surveillance and utilized the surveillance tools necessary to obtain enough evidence to bring justice to those who had been victimized by Bost,” Campbell said. “I also want to thank the residents and community members who remained vigilant and continued to communicate with law enforcement throughout this investigation. Their cooperation and willingness to report information played an important role in helping us bring this case to a close.”
This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 878-3180.
According to the ICSO, Bost’s criminal history includes a charge of misdemeanor assault on a female.
