The Statesville Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team arrested three individuals on drug-related charges on Monday, May 11, while officers were responding to drug complaints in the area of Motel 7.
During the operation, officers encountered Statesville resident Deleon Carshar Dalton, 45, who had outstanding felony warrants for the sale of marijuana and crack cocaine, police said in a news release. As officers moved in to arrest Dalton, another officer observed a suspicious vehicle nearby and conducted a traffic stop at the Waffle House on E. Garner Bagnal Boulevard for a traffic violation, police said.
The front seat passenger, Statesville resident Darrell Fraley, 41, exited the vehicle and fled on foot, according to the news release. Officers apprehended Fraley in the parking lot of Motel 7 on Greenland Drive. During the pursuit, Fraley discarded a plastic bag containing more than 74 grams of cocaine, which was later recovered by officers, police said.
Fraley was charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Another passenger, Statesville resident Darlene Sherrill Campbell, 63, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, police said. She was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the SPD, Fraley has multiple felony convictions for drug offenses and fleeing arrest. He is currently on federal probation for drug violations and received a $250,000 secured bond.
Dalton also has multiple felony drug convictions, police said. He received a $50,000 secured bond.
Campbell, who has a multiple pending felony drug charges, including possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, received a $500,000 secured bond.
