Special to IFN
Effective immediately, the Town of Mooresville is transitioning to enhanced Stage 2 water conservation measures to reduce nonessential water use and protect long-term water supply reliability. These measures align with surrounding municipalities that also draw water from the Catawba-Wateree System.
The following restrictions apply to all customers served by the Town’s water system:
Mandatory watering schedules
♦ Now through May 31: Outside irrigation is restricted to 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., daily. The Town will issue warnings to residents and businesses who water outside these windows.
♦ Starting June 1: Irrigation shifts to a mandatory two-day schedule (Tuesdays & Saturdays, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.). A written warning by the Town will be provided for the first offense, and fines will be imposed beginning with the second offense.
These measures apply to in-ground irrigation systems; hose-end sprinklers; and automatic irrigation systems.
Other Restrictions
Other restrictions include washing sidewalks, driveways, patios, and parking areas; washing vehicles at home; operation of decorative fountains or water features not supporting aquatic life; and filling, draining, or refilling swimming pools (limited top-offs are permitted only for maintenance and liner protection)
Residents and businesses are still allowed to use the following hand watering; drip irrigation; watering cans; newly-installed landscaping during establishment periods; and rrigation supplied by private ponds
The following exceptions apply:
♦ Private well systems;
♦ Irrigation from private ponds or other alternate water sources;
♦ Water uses necessary for public health, safety, firefighting, or critical infrastructure operations; and
♦ Licensed commercial power washers
Bulk Water Sales Restrictions
On Friday, May 22, at 5 p.m., the Town of Mooresville will suspend all bulk potable water sales for the duration of these new enhanced restrictions, including:
♦ Hydrant meter use;
♦ Tanker/truck filling operations; and
♦ Temporary bulk fill operations
