Mrs. Sylvia Diane Barber Smith of 1149 King Street, Statesville, N.C., was born in Statesville on May 13, 1957, and was the daughter of the late Charles Wesley Barber Jr. and Catherine Johnson Barber. She departed this life on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Brian Center of Hickory following an extended illness.

She was a 1977 graduate of West Rowan High School and at one time was employed by Ramada Inn of Statesville.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her husband, Bernard Smith of the home; her son, Christopher Dwayne Smith of Statesville; her daughter, Amber LaShay Smith of Statesville; her stepdaughter, Loretta Robinson of Statesville; her grandchildren, Tavion Savon Smith and Amerrie Kamore Smith; her step-grandchildren, Antwan Robinson and Katandra Robinson; eight step-great grandchildren; her siblings, Robert Barber of Elkin, Johnny Luckey, Richard Jones, Perry Price, Clarence Jones, and Shirley Barber, all of Statesville, and Barbara Ann (Leon) Smith of Florida; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Linda Pauline White, Annie Faye Mayfield and David Mayfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 2 p.m. at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Pastor Carolyn Morrison will officiate and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Mrs. Smith will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of her sister-in-law, Linda White, 1103 King Street, Statesville, at other times.
