Romie Allen Martin, 80, of Statesville, N.C., died Monday, January 20, 2020, at his home. Born in Wilkes County on October 1, 1939, he was a son of the late Enoch Martin and Blanche Pendergrass Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley Hager Martin; one grandchild; and three great grandchildren.

He was a member and deacon at Yadkin Baptist Church and served on the grounds committee and cared for the church grounds for many years. He was also a member of the Senior Saints group at the church. He retired from Duke Power Company and served his country in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his children, Sandy Martin, Rocky Martin (Lori), Melissa Lackey (Timothy), Derinda Gallimore (Marvin) and Tabatha Martin. Also surviving are a brother, Fred Martin (Sandy); and a sister, Sarah Medlin along; along with 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday at Yadkin Baptist Church with Dr. J.B. Parker Jr., Chaplin Lynn Kunkle and Rev. Rev. Jim McGraw officiating. He will lie in state for one hour in the church sanctuary while the family greets friends in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow with full military rites in the church cemetery. Funeral rites will be provided by the North Iredell American Legion Post # 113 and active-duty personnel.
