Mrs. Aquilla Woods Freeman, 75, of 130 Lippard Road, Statesville, N.C., passed away at her daughter’s home in Statesville on Saturday, January 9, 2021, following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on May 30, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Glen and Virginia Morrison Lackey Woods.

She was married to Charles Richard Freeman, who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie Lynn Woods; a granddaughter, Jalisa Manson and Natosha Graham; and great grandchildren, Tahtiyanna and Alaya McILwain; sisters, Lessie Mae Woods Tucker and Mae Faye Woods; two brothers, (twin) Lester Woods and Conway Lackey.

She was a graduate of Unity High School in 1964, and also received a Nursing Degree from Mitchell Community College. Prior to her illness, she was a Home Manager for RHA for over twenty years and at one time, she was employed by Huntersville Hospital as a Nursing Assistant. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a Deaconess and on the Usher Board. She loved shopping, her children, grandchildren and her family.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her children, Deborah Ramseur, Charles Rucker, Darrell Woods, Tabatha (Kevette) Weaver, Francine Mott, and Richard Freeman; her grandchildren, Marissa Graham, Trey Graham, Phatara Howell, Anastassia (Reon) MclLwain, Shanequia Freeman, Charles Woods, Tiante’ Weaver, Shakeel Lanster, Cierra Rucker, CJ Rucker, Allisa Rucker, and Legacy Freeman; great grandchildren, Pharrell Howell, Liam Jenkins and JaShawn McILwain; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, The St. John Church Family, other relatives and dear friends.

Graveside Services will be conducted Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 2 p.m. at The Belmont Cemetery. Reverend Burrel Brooks will officiate.

There will be no public visitation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
