Arley Dwaine Brooks Sr., 74, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Carolina Caring in Sherrills Ford. Born November 21, 1946, in Iredell County, N.C., he was the son of Arley Adam Brooks and Margaret Thompson Brooks.

Mr. Brooks was a 1966 graduate of Mooresville High School and attended Biscayne College in Salisbury. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a recipient of three Purple Hearts. Mr. Brooks was a line haul driver for Watkins Motor Liners from 1982 – 2007.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Nichole Brooks, and a sister, Brenda B. Childers.

Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Tonda Hoke Brooks, whom he married May 28, 1967; children, Mitzi Anne Brooks and Arley Dwaine “Dee” Brooks II; sister, Myra B. Kelly (Colin); grandchildren, Nolan Scott Cary, Shevy Sheldon Gatten, Victoria Sheyanne Nichole Gatten and Arley J. “A.J.” Brooks; and great grandson, Draven Cary.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Liberty Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Rev Eddie Graham and Rev. Lawrence Ownbey officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.
