Dyane Margaret Schantag Carey, 70, of Troutman, N.C., passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born August 9, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Louse Juerjens Schantag.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George. E. Carey Jr., who passed away on August 10, 2012.

Dyane worked with the Iredell County Department of Social Services for 20 years. During her employment, she made a lot of wonderful friends, whom she leaves behind.

She was very active with the Guardian Ad Litem program, advocating for children in Iredell County, and she enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her friends, she leaves to cherish her memory her children, Evan (Bill) Flury of Troutman and Michael (Kelly) Carey of Newton, N.C.; sister, Marlene Turner of Alaska; five grandchildren, Carlie Drew Stewart, Damon Bryce Stewart, Rylan Carey Stewart, Brock Carey and Taylor Elizabeth Carey; and one great-grandchild, Weston Stewart. She also leaves behind her two special fur babies, Katie and Betty White.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, August 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Iredell Memorial Park with Rev. Brian Correll officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception following the service at Evan and Bill Flury’s home.
