Hubert Monroe Johnston, 89, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at his residence. He was born on July 17, 1931, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late Norman Blaine and Ruby Smith Johnston.

Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Brawley School in Mooresville. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Mooresville and the Men’s Adult II Sunday School Class. Mr. Johnston was a founding member of the South Iredell Lion’s Club. He enjoyed daily visits to McDonald’s for breakfast and coffee with friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Martin Johnston; and his sisters, Frances Kistler and Carol Murray.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Bostian and husband Kelly; brother, Tom Johnston and wife Johnnie; sister, Barbara Sellers; grandchildren, Marc Gregory and wife Laurel, and Kasey Short and husband Matt; and great grandchildren, Lily Strickland, Noah and Elijah Short.

The body will lie in state on Friday, February 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Larry Leatherwood officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
