Paul “Dean” Malcolm passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the Gordon Hospice House after several months of declining health.

He was born in 1934 to Adam W. Malcolm and Willie Hoover Malcolm in Troutman. He attended Iredell County Schools and was of the Baptist faith. Dean worked at Burlington Mills in Mooresville for 27 years and retired from Cabinet Makers in Statesville. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and working in his yard.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Bass Malcolm. Others left to cherish his memory are sisters, Nathila Cook of Stony Point, Brenda Murdock (Charles) of Statesville and Annie Luffman of Troutman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws, David and Carolyn Bass.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Junior Malcolm, Kenneth Malcolm and Willard Malcolm; and sisters, Jannie Ervin and Betty Bass.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Troutman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Wesley Chapel UMC Cemetery with Rev. Talmedge Hollar officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home.
