Rebecca Mae Peeler Henderson, 89, of Statesville, N.C., died Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Autumn Care. She was born in Rowan County on November 4, 1931, to the late Adam Henry Tobias Peeler and Jettie Moose Peeler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Henderson Jr.; and sisters, Nancy P. Kluttz, Edith P. Fraley and Barbara A. Peeler.

Rebecca attended Appalachian Teacher’s College. She was a lifelong active member at Wittenberg Lutheran Church in Granite Quarry and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Statesville, where she served as organist and pianist and was active in the Lutheran Church Women, choir, handbells, Vacation Bible School, Quilters Guild, kitchen committee and many other roles in both churches. She worked as a paralegal in Salisbury before the family moved to Statesville. She then worked along side her husband in the three family businesses until her retirement.

Survivors include a son, Edward W. Henderson of Rock Hill, S.C.; three daughters, Judith H. Abernathy (Carl Michael) of Valdese, N.C., Maria H. Lewis (Mark) of Salisbury, N.C., Amy H. Hayes of Conover, N.C., four grandchildren, Sarah A. Harmon (Ben), Adam A. Abernathy (Kaitlin), Brian M. Hayes, and Rebecca Joy Lewis; and three great-grandchildren, James Abernathy, Iris Abernathy, and Hannah Harmon.

A Funeral Service will be held for Mrs. Henderson on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Ernie Sheldon officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Wittenburg Lutheran Church Cemetery in Granite Quarry, N.C.
