Rev. Benjamin Nelson Black, 86, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Rev. Black was born April 22, 1934, in Charlotte, N.C., and was the son of the late Otto Brice Black and Lillian Rebecca Hudson Black. He was a graduate of Charlotte Tech High School and Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. On April 9, 1955, he married Darris Hardin Black, who survives of the home.

For the past 64 years, he ministered at Mt. Mourne Church of God, Fisher St. Church of God in Kannapolis, Landmark Church of God (Fifth Street), Earl Street Church of God in Kannapolis, Thomasville Church of God, N. Belmont Church of God, W. Asheville Church of God, Crest City Conference, Royster Church of God in Shelby and President Emeritus at Landmark Church of God.

In addition to his wife, Rev. Black is survived by five children, Norman Black (Sandy) of South Carolina, Baron J. Black of Tennessee, Regina King (Allen) of North Carolina, Wendell Black of North Carolina, Galen Black (Luanne) of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Starnes; one brother, Charles Black; and a host of numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Landmark Church of God. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
