Mr. Derryck Duane Turner, 32, was born in Iredell County, N.C., on October 8, 1990, to Derryck Duane Turner and Phyllis Ann Daye. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Derryck graduated from Waddell High School in Charlotte, N.C., and was employed with Truck Movers prior to his death. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and was affectionately known by his friends and family as “Black Mingo.”

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his parents, Derryck Duane Turner and Phyllis Ann Daye; his girlfriend, Tylicia Stevenson of Statesville; five children, Aiden Turner of Charlotte, Derryck Turner III, Manoli Turner, Dakota Turner, and Aladdin Turner, all of Statesville; grandparents, Rickey Turner, Shelby Gaither, and Sarah Daye; two brothers, Antione Daye of Statesville and Michael Clarke of Charlotte; four sisters, Martieka Daye of Mooresville, Mya Stevenson of Charlotte, and Jameka Turner and Shacobee Turner, both of Statesville; a goddaughter, Beautiful Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Christian Outreach of the Piedmont. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Belmont Cemetery.
