Dortha Mary Ann Pinkston Fraley, 95 of Cleveland, N.C., died Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.

She was born in Rowan County on March 20, 1927, to the late James William Pinkston and Mary Jane Morgan Pinkston. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Benson Fraley in 2011, and a grandson, Seth Nance.

Dortha had been a member of South River Methodist Church for a number of years. She loved flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, and canning, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and cake decorating. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and loved helping others. Throughout her children’s elementary school years, she was always a grade mother and was also a 4-H leader. She loved babies and especially spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Von Fraley (Cindy); three daughters, Janie Fraley Creason (Tim), Linda Fraley Watts (Woody Wooten), and Mary Fraley Nance (Brian); eight grandchildren, LeeAnn Creason, Holly Black (Shawn), Robyn Purvis (Dallas), Lori Fraley (Michael Jones), Ellen Wood (Austin), Tanner Watts, Spencer Nance, and Peyton Nance (fiancé Kennedy Wilson); six great-grandchildren, Ally Haas, Cole Haas, Huk Black, Grayson Jordan, Haven Harpe, Madison Apgar, and baby Wood arriving in February 2023. She is also survived by a brother, James Edward Pinkston of Georgia.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at South River Methodist Church in Woodleaf, N.C., with Pastor Glenn Sellers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the burial in the fellowship hall.
