Robert Montgomery “Monty” Harris Jr., 51 of Statesville, N.C., passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 8, 1970, in Asheville, N.C., and was the son of the late Rev. Robert Harris and Joyce H. Harris, who survives. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. He served on the security team, was the grounds keeper and recreation committee chair. He was an avid fan of Carolina Tarheels basketball, the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves.

He graduated from North Iredell High School in 1989 and graduated from Mitchell Community College with an Associates Degree. He helped coach the local basketball teams. He touched many people with his quick smile and friendly demeanor. Monty retired from JC Penny Distribution Center and became an employee of Harris Manufacturing in Taylorsville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Robert M. Harris Sr., and brother-in-law, Lindsey A. Summers.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by siblings, Cindy Summers, Robin Hill (Nathan), Amelia Harris and Jonathan Harris; two nieces, Kara Steele (Adam), and Meredith Hill; one nephew, Garrett Summers (Chelsea); one great niece, Baylee Steele; and two great nephews, Bryson Steele and Brody Summers.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
