Allan “Big Al” Curtis Wood was born on March 8, 1945, to Ed and Dolly Wood of Wilkes, N.C. He graduated from North Wilkes in 1963, and he was a member at Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover, N.C.

On June 24, 2023, Allan went home to the Lord. Christian music was playing and his wife, children and grandchildren were by his side.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ed Wood and wife Shirley, and Buford Wood and wife Wilma; and one granddaughter, BriAnna McClelland.

Allan was a God-fearing man who loved his family fiercely. Anyone that knew him knew he was a man who said few words but when he did speak it was to guide, encourage and say something sarcastic. Allan loved to hunt, fish, camp, cook and serve the Lord, all while making memories with his wife. They traveled the world from Mexico to Italy, leaving a mark wherever they went. He was a self-employed businessman who had a knack for redneck ingenuity.

Allan is survived by his firecracker wife of 59 years, Wanda. He was a father to Kenneth Wood and wife Tera, Karen Woods, husband Brett and Jennifer Olumba.

He was Pappaw to many but his favorites were Christopher McClelland, girlfriend Maggie, Brandi Todd, husband Brandon, Jennetta McClelland, Bj Woods, fiancée Candace, and Onyinyechi Olumba.

He also had six great-grandchildren, Cj, Sophia, Von, Brayden, Vicen and Cooper. He had many nieces and nephews that all love him dearly.

We all remember his Santa Claus looks with his jean overalls and black shoes. Sleeping in the recliner or telling a joke and giving us a great big laugh.

The Lord, his dear wife and family all kept him going to the very end. He is at peace while we all pick up the pieces to keep moving forward with his memories and love in our hearts.
