Barbara “Bobbie” Coleman Childers, 82, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at her residence. She was born on June 20, 1941, in Gaston County, N.C., to the late Murray and Helen Little Coleman.

Mrs. Childers received the Curved Bar award from the Girl Scouts which is now the Gold Award, the highest honor. She graduated from North Meck High School and Anderson College. She also attended Appalachian University, UNC-Charlotte, Sacred Heart College, Central Piedmont Community College, and Mitchell Community College. She was employed with Canteen/Compass Group for 39 years as Executive Assistant to the Division President, where she received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 and ABC Award in 2003 for the Carolina-Virginia Region of Canteen.

Mrs. Childers was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church in Mooresville, where she taught Sunday School, was a GA leader, and sang in the choir. Mrs. Childers enjoyed reading, puzzles, and playing the piano and organ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Rusty” Childers; sister, Katy O’Riley; cousin, Jim Wright; chihuahua, Boogie; and Siamese cat, Gracie Louise.

She is survived by her son, Kelly Childers; cousins, Judy Wright and Linda Wright; her beloved Siamese cat, Lucille Grace; Village on Park guardian angels and neighbors; and special friends, Dot Honeycutt, Marla Henderson, and Barbara Mitchum.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, at Glenwood Memorial Park with Rev. Hal Greene officiating.
