Carmel Lovette Grant Norman, 59, beloved wife of Willie G. Norman, is in the presence of Jesus her Savior. On June 24, 2023, at her home, her faith became sight as she died after a courageous battle with cancer spanning 12 years. She was born on June 8, 1964, daughter of the late J. Ken Grant and Lounell Mitchell Grant.

In the words of some of her “church kids,” “Carmel was a child of the King with a servant’s heart,” “she never had any children from her body but she had countless children from her heart,” and “she was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched.” She worked in Children’s Ministries for 35-plus years.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a sister, Tamera G. Wright and husband Don M. Wright; a brother-in-law Jason Norman; a sister-in-law, Crystal J. Shoemaker, and husband Randy Shoemaker; and several nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own.

Carmel started her work career, at the age of 13, at Harmony Dairy Freez with her grandparents, Fred and Martha T. Grant. She was a graduate of North Iredell High School and also attended Mitchell College. She worked at Wachovia Bank as both a Teller and a Business Banker. She then went to work as the Office Manager for Dr. Mark Dale until Dr. Dale’s retirement in 2019. She worked part-time for Dr. Tim Burgiss until the return of the cancer made it too painful to continue.

A Celebration of Life for Carmel is scheduled for Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 4 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Harmony Baptist Church, 135 Little Wilkesboro Road Harmony, N.C. The visitation will be from 2:30 until 4 p.m. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery in Harmony. A time will be provided during the service for anyone to share personal memories of Carmel’s life.

For those who prefer, memorials may be given to Harmony Baptist Church, P.O. Box 160, Harmony, NC 28634.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bunchjohnsonfuneralhome.com for the Norman family.

Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Carmel.
