Carolyn Sue Lanier Shives, 84, of Statesville, N.C., went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 6, 2023, at her home while surrounded by her family.
Carolyn was born on March 18, 1939, in Iredell County. She was the daughter of the late Hugh Vestal Lanier and Ruth Cash Lanier.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy O’Neil Shives; brother, Harold Lanier; and daughter-in-law, Darlene Shives.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Terry O. Shives; daughters, Debbie Shives Earnest (Junior), and Donna Shives Haithcox (David), grandchildren; Brian Cloer, Krystal Allen (Daniel), Amy Johnson (Brandon), Bradley Gibson (Kristy), Devin Earnest, Sarah Earnest, Leanne Earnest, and Cody Pennell; and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are Carolyn’s sisters, Phyllis Lanier Plyler and Martha Lanier Lynch; her special fur baby, Jax; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 9, at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Bob Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery.
Carolyn was blessed to have her loving family to care for her during her extended illness. The family wants to give a special thank you to her hospice nurse, Lorrie Warren, for all her love, care and guidance.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County or Bible Baptist Church.
