Denver Allen “D.A.” Hampton passed away peacefully at his home in Huntersville, N.C., on June 16, 2023. Denver was born in Watauga County (Boone), N.C., on April 11, 1941, to Darius Sebastian Hampton and Lena Carroll Hampton.

Denver was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wayne Houston Hampton.

Denver was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Avis Smith Hampton of the home; daughters Susan Hampton Barringer of Mooresville and Karen Hampton Hunt (Greg) of Huntersville; grandchildren, Amber Barringer Hines (Austin), Taylor Barringer, Zachary Howie, Miranda Howie, and Bryson Hunt; great-grandchildren, Warren, Wyatt, Hazel, Peyton, and Grace; sisters, Juella Hampton Francis and Muriel Jean Hampton Jones; and special sister-in-law Joyce Hartley Hampton.

Denver bought his first dump truck on November 18, 1967, and formed D.A. Hampton Trucking. His company was involved in building all major roads and interstates into and out of Charlotte, N.C. He was also involved in building South Park Mall and Eastland Mall. What he believed to be one of his greatest achievements was helping to build the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Denver was a hard worker and his legacy to his family was to always finish what you start and do it to the glory of God.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Mooresville, N.C. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
