Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Cowan Hewitt, 71, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Ann,” of Troutman, N.C., peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at her residence. She was born in Alexander County, N.C., on March 12, 1951, and was the daughter of the late John Lee Cowan Sr. and Loretta Baity Cowan. She was married to Dwaine Nelson Hewitt Sr., who preceded her in death.

After graduating from Unity High School, she spent many years engaged in manufacturing and worked for many companies over the scope of 50 years, with companies like Thor-Lo, Matsushita Panasonic, and most prominently JPS Composite Materials for nearly 20 years. Elizabeth also loved to work with taxes and prepared taxes independently for over 30 years to a large clientele. Elizabeth was a member of Bibleway Church #6, where she participated in the church choir.

She was preceded in death by her father, the late Bishop John Lee Cowan Sr.; her mother, Evangelist Loretta Cowan; her husband, Dwaine Nelson Hewitt Sr.; and two sisters, Willie Mae Bines and Dorothy Davis.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life a daughter, Stephanie (Harvey III) Turner of Troutman; a son, Dwaine Hewitt Jr. of Fort Mill, S.C.; her siblings, Mary Jones, Lorene Gallmon, Betty Garner, Rev. John Lee Cowan Jr., Pearlene Corry, and Rosetta Cowan; two grandchildren, Harvey ShaquilleTurner and Octavia Turner; four great grandchildren; Domonic, Anna Marie, Nelia and Harper; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Bibleway Church #6 family, a special friend, Ms. Gloria Harris; and other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, February 12, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Bibleway Church #6, 327 Carlyle Road, Troutman, NC 28166. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12: noon until 1 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
