Louann Church Jones, 86, of Harmony, N.C., passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C.

Mrs. Jones was born February 17, 1937, in Iredell County, the daughter of the late William Coite Church and Vagie Martin Church. She was a 1955 graduate of Harmony High School, where she was an all-county basketball player.

Louann married her beloved husband Parks Jones on June 8, 1958. Together they worked side by side for 57 years of marriage until Mr. Jones passed away on January 18, 2016. Parks and Louann owned and operated Jones Grocery; they were well-known for the delicious homemade livermush, sausage and other fresh meats. She was a faithful member of Clarksbury Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, served as church treasurer and worked on many other committees. She was a big supporter of her children and grandchildren’s school and sports involvements. Louann was instrumental in helping to start the Iredell County Youth Athletic Association in North Iredell. She was a member of the North Iredell High School Boosters Club and served on the Harmony Elementary PTO for many years. She was famous for making delicious cakes and bread for church functions and for her neighbors.

In addition to her parents and husband, Louann was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jordan Jurney; and eight brothers and sisters, Robert, Frank, Paul, David, William, Grady, Alice Absher and Lucy McCarty.

Those left to cherish her memory include her five daughters, Jennifer White (Dr. Andy White), Malinda Smith (Jimmy Smith), Karen Johnson (Mark Johnson), Sue Jurney (Lieutenant General William Jurney), and Rhoda Redmond (Todd Redmond); seven grandchildren, Meredith Collins (Andrew Collins), Zack Smith (Krystle Smith), Ethan Johnson (Sarah Johnson), Troy Jurney, Madison Jurney, Anna Smith Lee (Matthew Lee), and Samantha Redmond; eight great grandchildren, Paisley, William, Sam and Cooper Collins, and River, Brant, Bodie, and Ridge Smith. Also surviving are a brother, Roy Church, and a sister, Antha Reid.

A funeral to celebrate the life of Louann Jones will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Clarksbury Methodist Church, 924 East Memorial Highway, Harmony, N.C., conducted by Rev. Dr. Cliff Wall and Dr. Andy White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
