Rebecca “Becky” Hall Burke, 94, of Mooresville, N.C., and formerly of Charlotte, N.C., peacefully passed away February 5, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. Becky was born in Charlotte on July 25, 1925, to Ada Mildred Hall and Phillip Robert Hall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Robert Hall Jr. and her beloved husband, Lee Albert Burke.

Becky retired from Metric Construction but her true career passion was delivering the Charlotte Observer to patients at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Carolinas Medical Center). She took the job temporarily as a favor, but ended up staying for 17 years. When she moved on to her final job at Metric, the Charlotte Observer even published a story about Becky, titled “Memorial’s Paper Doll ends 17-year career.”

Becky was an active member of the Mooresville Lions Club for the past 10 years. Although legally blind, Becky still participated in many Lions Club activities over the years such as the Camp Dogwood VIP Camp and the VIP Fishing tournament. She also loved joining her neighborhood friends at their clubhouse to play games and participate in exercise classes until her eyesight prevented her from enjoying it. Becky was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Mooresville, and loved taking part in Sunday School, Bible Studies, trips, dinners, and other church activities. No matter the stage of her life, Becky was always the life of the party and was up for anything. It was said that if we all wanted to climb Mt. Everest, Becky would simply ask someone to get her shoes. The most important part of Becky’s life was her family, and she will be remembered by her family as someone who was always there for them, no matter what, no matter when.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Maranich and husband Sonny of Sherrills Ford, N.C., Angela Kaiser of Mooresville, and Marianne Webb and husband Greg of Mooresville; and son, Lee Albert Burke Jr. and wife Dina of Charlotte. Becky is also survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A celebration of life service will be held by the family at Trinity Baptist Church on Saturday, February 18, at 1 p.m. with Dr Mark E. Harris officiating. Visitation will be held following the service in Becky’s neighborhood clubhouse at The Villages at Oak Tree in Mooresville. A private burial will be held at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, where Becky will be laid to rest next to her husband, parents, and brother.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Iredell County Hospice, Dr. James Allen and Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Your care and kindness will always be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3365, Mooresville NC 28117 or The Mooresville Lions Club, P.O. Box 5234, Mooresville NC 28117.
