Rodney Steven Sheline, 73, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023, with family by his side. He was born on October 5, 1950, in Springfield, Ohio, to Rodney Richard Sheline and Nora Martyne White Sheline.

Steve was preceded in death by his father in 1998.

Steve lived most of his childhood in Ohio before his family moved to Charlotte, where he graduated from Independence High School in 1968. After graduating high school, Steve enrolled at Gardner-Webb University, but shortly after joined the Army and was stationed in Vietnam, where he served his country from February 1971 through December 1973. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces in the Republic of Vietnam from March 1972 to March 1973.

After returning home from Vietnam, Steve resumed his college education at Belmont Abbey and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

Steve loved hunting, watching football, attending Wake Forest home football games, and playing golf. He was most proud of his daughter, Stephanie, and her accomplishments.

Steve is survived by his immediate family, Martyne Sheline (mother), Tamara Sheline (wife), and Stephanie Sheline (daughter). He is also survived by his very close cousins with whom he grew up, cousin and best friend, Geoff Higginbotham (Carol), cousin, Paulette Boling (Fred), and cousin, Susan Higginbotham.

A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, NC. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
