Samuel Scott Bunting, 74, of Asheboro, N.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2023.

Scott was born in Asheboro on August 26, 1948, to C. H. and Polly Bunting. He was a 1966 graduate of Farmer High School and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1971. He was formerly employed by Iredell County Schools.

After suffering life-altering injuries in an automobile accident in 1981, Scott was a long-time resident of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Home in High Point and most recently a resident of Clapp’s Nursing Home in Asheboro. Prior to his accident, Scott enjoyed playing the piano and organ at his church, Bethel Baptist Church, in Iredell County. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Troutman Fire Department.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, C. H. Bunting and Polly Bunting.

Scott is survived by the love of his life, Artie Poole Phillips; daughter, Melissa Bunting of Troutman, N.C., and daughter, Kathryn Sowers (Trent) of Statesville, N.C.; and brother Steve Bunting (Christi) of Randleman. He is also survived by three grandchildren, grandson David Scott Meadows, and granddaughters Taylor Sowers and Kenleigh Sowers; and nephew Ben Bunting of New Bern, N.C.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21, from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro. Funeral service will follow at 2 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home chapel with Rev. John Sides officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
