Virgil Carl Bustle, 92, of Statesville, N.C., died December 25, 2023, at Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness.

He was born in Wilkes County, N.C., on July 17, 1931, to the late Reuben C. Bustle and Della Jordan Bustle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Holland Bustle, in 2019. He was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Bustle.

Virgil was a lifelong member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and was a prayer warrior. He started each day by praying aloud, giving thanks and praise to the Lord, and asking God to lead, guide and bless each of his family members, church family and our elected officials. Virgil loved to garden and could grow anything. He enjoyed taking his produce to the Farmers Market on Thursdays and selling it there. As his health began to decline and he could no longer garden, he took up artwork and enjoyed whiling away time with his newfound hobby.

He is survived by a stepson, Tony Rhyne (Loreilie); sons, Carl (Mary) and Rex; three daughters, Patricia Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Wanda Matthews; step son, Johnny; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Bustle (Viola); and a sister, Katherine Beasley.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
