William “Bill” Edward Wanemaker, 86, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on March 17, 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wanemaker (nee Dietl); daughter, Maryann Rizzo (nee Wanemaker); grandson, Dan Rizzo (Anamaria); and brother-in-law, Joseph Dietl (Linda).

He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Diane Wanemaker, brothers, Frank (Joyce) and Joseph (Christine) Wanemaker, and parents, Frank and Matilda Wanemaker.

Bill was born on July 14, 1936, in Buffalo, N.Y. Bill was a devoted husband and father. He was married to his sweetheart and best friend Shirley for 65 years, and he adored his daughters, Maryann and Diane, and grandson, Dan. During his 32-year career as a welder for American Axle, he also enjoyed working on cars doing collision work, custom paint, and restorations. He was “Mr. Fix It” to anyone who knew him. Bill loved to go fishing, watch auto racing, and drive his John Deere tractor. Once he retired from American Axle in 1997, he and Shirley moved from Buffalo to North Carolina to build and create their dream home, yard, and gardens, which became his pride and joy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
