Alan Palmer Johnson, 82, passed away in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on April 29, 2024. He was born November 17, 1941, in Asheville, N.C., to Hoyt and Louise Johnson.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by wife Elaine; children, Jeff (Mary) and Jennifer (John); grandchildren, Cole, Jillian and Genevieve; and step children, Kathryn and David (Anna and Sophie). Alan was born and raised in Asheville, N.C., and attended Western Carolina University, graduating in 1962. He served in the Army from 1962-1964 before embarking on a successful career in the insurance business, opening his own small business in Statesville, N.C., and being an active member in the Rotary Club.

Alan spent 40 years In Statesville, where he and first wife Judy (deceased in 1999) raised their two children and made many lifelong friends and memories. Alan was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and always instilled Christian values in his family. After leaving Statesville, Alan moved to Myrtle Beach full time with his wife Elaine, where he continued to make new friends either in the neighborhood or on the golf course. He loved his family and spending time with them on holidays and family vacations. Alan, being from Asheville, loved spending time in the North Carolina mountains and made a retirement tradition of spending the month of August in the Blowing Rock area.

Alan was an avid golfer and loved every aspect of the game. He enjoyed playing golf with friends either at Statesville Country Club or at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, where he played with the Sandbaggers.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, at Oakwood Cemetery. The family with speak with friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to First Tee National Headquarters, 13000 Sawgrass Village Circle, Building 4, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, 32082.
