Betty “Jean” Brooks Waugh, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 28, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family who took care of her.

She was born on February 26, 1935, in Mooresville to the late Rufus and Lena Morrow Brooks. Jean worked in the computer room at Templon Spinning Mills for 17 years until they closed. She then worked at Bay State Milling in accounting and retired at the age of 82 from Mooresville Graded School District. She was so active and could not stop working. All the school children loved her and she remembered all their lunch numbers. After retiring, she spent time at their beach house in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. Jean was nice to everyone no matter what, and everyone loved her. She loved her family and spending time with them; she was the backbone of our family and will be missed greatly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roy “Bill” Waugh; and son, Tony Allen Waugh.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Waugh Cruse; sister, Virginia Ann McConnell; daughter-in-law, Teresa Waugh; grandchildren, Jamie Roger, Brandon Christy, Brent Christy, Bani Jones, and Brooke Kennedy; and 14 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with a service following at 12 noon at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Pastor Rodney Quesenberry officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.
