Colene Stroud Clarke, 91, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her home.

Colene was born on December 18, 1932, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Earl Franklin Stroud and Bessie York Stroud. She attended Cool Spring High School and on March 6, 1954, was married to Fred Pressly Clarke, who died August 20, 2015. She worked at Iredell Memorial Hospital for a number of years and was a member of the Statesville chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a former Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, traveling, and camping. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death her infant son, Buddy Ray Clarke; one sister, Dorothy Stroud Steelman; and one brother, Ruben Stroud.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Sharon Clarke Sigmon of Statesville and Karon Clarke Shew (Johnny) of Jonesville, N.C., and son, Freddie Bredale Clarke of Mooresville; and three grandchildren, Jeremy Shane Harmon, Alisha Dale Harmon and Amber C. Henry. Five great grandchildren and three great great granddaughters also survive.

She will lie in state Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Troutman Funeral Home until the morning of the service.

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Spry officiating. The family will speak with visitors following the service.

The family would like to thank her special caregivers, Anita, Kelsey, LeeAnn, Amanda, Pamela for their love and care to Colene.
