Dan Ray Creasey, a cherished family member, friend, and community leader, passed away on February 20, 2024. He was a U.S. Army Veteran with service in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic, and he later completed a successful 38-year career with Diebold.

Throughout his life, he exemplified the values of service, family, and community.

Dan was born on September 10, 1947, in High Point, N.C., to his late mother Mary Carol King and father Frank Earl Creasey. Above all, Dan was a beloved husband of 42 years to Donna Creasey; cherished father to Wendy Creasey; proud grandfather to Olivia Hoynes; and admired brother to Jerry Creasey. Dan and his wife, Donna, have called Mooresville home for over 30 years.

As a disabled U.S. Army veteran, Dan’s dedication to surviving and fallen service members and their families was unwavering. For years, Dan served as a charter director and Board member for the Western Carolina Chapter of Folds of Honor, a nonprofit granting educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen and disabled service members and first responders. He also was an advocate and member of the Iredell County Veterans Council to support local veterans. Dan served as a former president and Board member for the Vietnam Veterans of America (Chapter 1107). He was a charter member and former Senior Vice Commander at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) 12187 in Mooresville. Dan was also a dedicated supporter of Richard’s Coffee Shop and Welcome Home Veterans Museum, an organization in Mooresville focused on uplifting veterans. Richard’s Coffee Shop provides a space for community building amongst veterans, where Dan was well known, loved, and supported before and during his battle with cancer.

Beyond veterans’ causes, Dan volunteered for over three decades at Camp Care, a summer camp for children facing cancer. As a retired business executive, he had a knack for fundraising and contributed immensely to the financial sustainability of Camp Care. He built new cabins, put on funny skits with counselors, and was a consistent, kind presence for campers. Dan, with his wife Donna, welcomed family and friends of all ages into their home who needed a place to stay. Dan also loved dogs, country music, fishing, and traveling around the world with his wife Donna.

Among his many talents, Dan was known for his craftsmanship, creativity, and willingness to help others. He was a multi-talented maker and could build or fix anything. Dan’s workshop was known to friends and neighbors as a place to borrow tools and gather support for do-it-yourself projects. Dan was an exceptionally creative potter and inventor — making beautiful mugs, furniture, and craft beers.

Dan’s commitment to caring for his local community, family, and friends inspires us all. Dan Creasey will be deeply missed, and his legacy of service and compassion will continue to live on.
