Frances Lee Anderson Steele, 89, of Cleveland, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at The Greens at Maple Leaf. Born on October 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Dock Dewey Anderson and Lacie Houston Anderson.

Mrs. Steele was a member of South River Church in Woodleaf, where she served as a Sunday school teacher in her earlier years. She retired as a Registered Nurse from the Rowan County Health Department. She had a love and passion for sewing, which she did for many years, gardening, canning and bird watching. On December 3, 1955, she married the love of her life, Carl.

In addition to her parents, Dock Dewey and Lacie Houston Anderson, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carl Gordon Steele; and her daughter, Myra McCachren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Linda Cranford, and her husband Larry; son, Wesley Steele, and his wife Robinette; grandchildren, Kristen Raymer and her husband Justin, Cari McCachren-Shah and her husband Amol, Mary Hintz and her husband Mitchell, Laura Mabry and her husband Chris, Aaron Cranford and his wife Taylor, Allison Watson and her husband Jacob, and Laiton Steele; great-grandchildren, Fiona Raymer, Whitaker Raymer, Landyn Mabry, Anderson Mabry, Lahna Shah, and Nohlan Shah; her sister, Betty Lou Wooten; and brother, Dewey Anderson.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and a special thank you to her caregiver, Pat Smith, for her love and the compassion she provided to Frances and her family.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at South River Church Cemetery in Woodleaf with Reverend Dr. Tom Mabry officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
