Glenda Raye Pope Murdock, who was affectionately known as Ginger and Googa, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., surrounded by her family that loves her dearly.

Glenda was born on April 11, 1941, in Troutman, N.C., to the late Glenn Rufus Pope and Connie Ethal Hicks Pope. She left behind a loving brother, Larry Hicks Pope, and sister-in-law, Soula Russos Pope, of Winston-Salem, N.C.

In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by her two sisters, Joan Donna Pope Lail and Cynthia Dean Pope McDougald; a nephew, Joshua Lee McDougald; and a spouse, Hal Wesley Murdock Sr.; and her beloved cat, Smokey.

Glenda leaves behind her two children, Hal Wesley Murdock Jr. and wife Tracie Poston Murdock of Mooresville, and Amy Murdock Speaks and husband Grady Wayne Speaks Jr. of Statesville; her grandchildren, Lyndsey Murdock Henderson and husband Joshua of Mooresville, Brooke Murdock Wheaton and husband Andrew of Georgia, Ryan Murdock of Mooresville, Olivia Murdock of Mooresville, Crystal Ann McDonald of Sylva, Duane “DJ” Wesley McDonald II and wife Raven of Statesville, Michael Gage Brown of Statesville, and Daniel Nicholas Brown of Statesville. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Adalyn Henderson, Emmalyn Henderson, Makenna Wheaton, Kinley Wheaton, Savannah Wheaton, Leila Jade Wyman and Maverick Jude McDonald.

Glenda spent her years as a mother and wife. She also worked at Piedmont Lumber Company, Lowrance Hospital in Mooresville and later at JC Penney Distribution in the jewelry room. Glenda also babysat children for many years. She had a great love for children!

Glenda was a lifetime member of New Perth ARP Church in Troutman. She loved her Maker and served Him well. She loved babies, cats, coffee and creamer, travel, birds, nature, basketball games and so many other things. She had a beautiful smile, sparkly blue eyes, a contagious laugh, lovely humor and a heart of gold!

At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, the Heavens rejoiced this night as the earth shed its tears.

A visitation will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m. at New Perth ARP Church with the service to follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dan Hazen officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

A very heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful and loving caregivers from Simply Caring in Statesville, Deirdre Harris, Darla Corah, Kelly Shorts, Melissa Caldwell and Tiffany Owens, who provided excellent care and to the staff and workers of Hospice of Iredell County, Crystal Brown, Andrea Winters, Janet Bentley, Riley Patterson, and especially nurse Lori Patterson, who was so great with our mother; as well as her doctors, Dr. Michael Renich, Dr. Pam Scholar and Dr. Andrew Braunstein.
