Pansy Gwendola Cook Smith, 95, of Salisbury, N.C., and formerly of Cleveland, N.C., passed away on January 1, 2024. She was born on September 20, 1928, in Yadkin County to W.L. Cook and Minnie Wallace Cook.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Harrison Smith; brothers, Lawrence Cook, Leon Cook, and Wendell Cook; and sister, Ruby C. Joyner.

She is survived by her daughters, Kay S. Harrell (David) of Ringgold, Ga., JoAnn Hall (Jim), of Silver City, N.M., and Connie S. Christy (Ric), of Cleveland, N.C.; grandchildren, Chad H. Christy (Kristin), Michael D. Harrell, Amanda G. Hall, Garrett R. Christy (Christina), and Natalie A. Hall; great grandchildren, Bluesy C. Harrell, and Weylyn V. Christy; and sister-in-law, Betty S. Davidson.

Gwen graduated from Harmony High School and Salisbury Business School. She and Charlie married on February 16, 1947, and together they owned and operated S&H Logging and Lumber Company. She was also an active member of Third Creek Presbyterian Church for over 77 years.

Gwen loved to share lots of laughter and fun with everyone she came in contact with.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 10 until 11:15 a.m. at Third Creek Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. Her memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Jerry Blankenship will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Salisbury for the exceptional care they took of Mrs. Smith.
