James Douglas Wiles Sr., 80, of Statesville, N.C., went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, with his loving family surrounding him.

Doug was born on September 24, 1943, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., to the late Marvin Theodore and Grace Florence Wiles.

Those left to cherish his life Include his loving wife of 62 years, Rita Ann Wiles; children, James D. Wiles Jr. (Sonya), Brian (Juanita) Wiles, and Melody (Mark) Cronce; ten grandchildren, Justin Wiles, Cameron Wiles, Taylor Wiles Gallamore, Caleb Cronce, Katie Wiles, Kelli Wiles, Joshua (Samantha) Cronce, Maddie (Seth) Greene, Makala (Mason) Pack, and Adam Cronce; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Allen; and many special nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Doug was proceeded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Doug was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville. He loved God and his family. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway as a clerk operator.

When he was not working and providing for his family, Doug enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, picking his guitar, and playing wiffleball with his grandkids.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brian Burgess officiating. The family will visit with family and friends following the service.

A private burial will be held.
