Lorene Oliphant Shinn, 97, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Born July 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Lucy Oliphant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 79 years, CT Shinn Jr., who passed exactly one year ago to the day. Also preceding her in death were four siblings, Pauline Knox (her twin) and brothers Bobby, Jack Lynn, and Harold. She is survived by son, Terry Shinn (Cynthia); daughter, Cindy Pardew (Terry); five grandchildren, Kristin Faulkner(Travis), Amy Smith (Tim), Bo Shinn (Gina), Abby Ott (Daniel), and Anna Whisenant (Kyle); thirteen great-grandchildren Tanner Smith, Raleigh Faulkner, Kalli Faulkner, Landis Smith, Benjamin Ott, Luke Faulkner, Myers Ott, Ava Whisenant, Lucy Wren Faulkner, Nora Jane Ott, Maisie Whisenant, Hunter Shinn, and Tyler Shinn; and siblings Virgina Follette, Wayne (Alma) and Gary Oliphant; and sister-in-law Frances Oliphant.

Ms. Shinn was a true matriarch. Her devotion to her husband and family knew no bounds. Retiring after 27 years as bookkeeper and office manager at Davis Supply gave her even more time to spend tending her flowers and on her needlework projects for her grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren. She was a caregiver to all — humans, animals, and plants – which she showed by feeding numerous strays and nursing even the most languishing plants back to life. On Sunday afternoons her home was the gathering place for multiple generations of family to share a meal that she lovingly prepared — including some that she grew herself in the garden.

The family would like to give special thanks to in-home caregivers Donna, Jackie, Patricia, Angela, Clarissa, Glenda, Mona and Susie.

Funeral services will be held at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 8, at 11 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial at St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
