Mary “May” McGrory Bischoff, 91, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C.

She was born July 23, 1932, in Scotland to the late James Giblin and Mary McGovern Byrne Giblin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Andrew; an infant daughter, Alexandra; and a brother, Eric Giblin.

She was a Librarian at Fordham University in Bronx, N.Y., before her retirement. Mary was very involved in scouts when her children were young. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

She came to the United States in 1960 and lived in New York for a time. Mary married the love of her life, Philipp Bischoff, 60 years ago in Scotland, and they settled in Flushing, N.Y. They moved to Mooresville in 2008 to be with family. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church since 2008 and was a very devout Catholic.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Philipp Bischoff; children, Philipp James Bischoff (Dawn Beatty) of Stallings, and Rosemary Blocher, of Mooresville; sister, Rose Wilkie of Scotland; grandchildren, Alexandra Bischoff, Philipp John Bischoff (Natasha Engineer), Andrew Blocher (Amber Holt), Iain Blocher, Robert Blocher, and Catherine Rose Blocher.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, February 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church.
