Ned Spurgeon Gaither, 88, of Harmony, N.C., passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at his home. Born on December 24, 1935, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Ralph Spurgeon Gaither and Louise Campbell Gaither.

Mr. Gaither was a member of Harmony Methodist Church. After 40 years, he retired as a supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He also was a retired volunteer fireman from the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department. He was raised on a farm, and one could describe him as a “farmer at heart.”

After his retirement, Ned and his late wife Betty enjoyed camping and traveling. He had a true passion for the outdoors and loved going fishing with his grandson, Daniel.

In addition to his parents, Ralph and Louise Gaither, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Harris Gaither; and his sister, Julia Sharpe. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Ned Christopher “Chris” Gaither, and Michael “Mike” Gaither and his wife Sheila; grandchildren, Jessica Christopher and her husband Adam, Daniel Gaither, Preston Campbell, and Garrett Campbell; great-grandchildren, Eli Christopher and Leo Christopher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2024, at Harmony Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Lakey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow the services in Harmony Town Cemetery.

Honoring him as pallbearers are Daniel Gaither, Adam Christopher, Eli Christopher, Darren Harris, Garrett Campbell, and Mark Brewer.
