It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the loss of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Thomas “Tommy” Moody Knox, 86, from Mooresville, N.C.

Tommy was accepted into the arms of our Lord and Savior on January 30, 2024.

He was born in Mooresville on December 20, 1937, to the late Dwight Moody Knox and Mildred Cashion Knox. He graduated from Mt. Ulla High School in 1956. He was a proud member of the baseball team. His lifetime of aviation careers began with Eastern Airlines, where worked in Ramp Operations in Charlotte, N.C., and Miami, Fla., for 28 years. He then went to work for Charlotte Douglas International Airport as part of the Runway Operations Team, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 2014. In addition to his love of aviation, he loved cars and was a gun enthusiast, attending shows often. In his free time, he loved to garden, tend to his chickens, and spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was always patient, warm, slow to anger and encouraging to those around him. He preferred focusing on the present instead of worrying about the future. He never met a stranger and made many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Deanna Hayden Knox; son Jeffrey Scott Knox and wife Lilia Knox; sister, Frances Stone and husband David; five grandchildren: Sabrina Knox, Izabella Knox, Nicole Rankin (husband Wyatt Rankin), Katherine Smith (husband Brennen Smith) and Sophia Palmer as well as his four great-grandchildren, William and Charlie Rankin and Scarlett and Henry Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, N.C., on Monday, February 5, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Vern Dodd officiating. We will be gathering at the church immediately after the service to honor and celebrate Tommy’s wonderful life. We will enjoy light refreshments and prayer in remembrance of his life and legacy.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC 28031.
