Wilma Marlene Shumaker, 87 of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Iredell Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Wilma was born in Iredell County to the late Ray Shoemaker and Callie Hudspeth Shoemaker on March 6, 1936.

She attended Troutman High School and graduated in the Class of 1954. She was employed by Hunt Manufacturing and a lifetime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Statesville, N.C. She volunteered at Baptist Center and visited shut-ins, making countless visits and phone calls to family and friends. She was also a previous choir member. Wilma loved traveling and bird watching.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two nephews, Ray Shoemaker and Carroll Suther; a niece, Janice Gryder; two sisters, Vono Suther and Mary Overcash; and four brothers, Guy Shumaker, Hack Shoemaker, Lathan Shoemaker, and Dock Shoemaker.

Left to cherish her memory are four nieces, Linda Parker (Jim), Trudy Peacock (Denny), Sylvia Durmire, and Barbara Stafford; and three nephews, Gene Shoemaker, Tim Shoemaker (Barbara), and Roger Overcash. She is also survived by Evelyn Shoemaker, Diane Suther, Larry Gryder, as well as several great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Kramm officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
