October 3, 1937 – September 29, 2025
Early this morning, our beloved Bobbie Jean Pearson Mahaffey went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed peacefully with her daughter, Lou Ann Dyson, by her side.
Bobbie, known affectionately as Mama, Mamaw Bobbie, or simply Bobbie, was just days away from celebrating her 88th birthday. She was strong, independent, feisty, and full of determination—a fighter until the very end.
In the days leading up to her heavenly homecoming, God’s hand was evident in her final days, unfolding His plan and fulfilling His promise to work all things for good. Her family surrounded her with love. She longed for the day she would be reunited with her dear mother in heaven. At the hospital, they laughed, reminisced, told stories, and remembered the many loved ones who had gone to heaven before her. Those final days were filled with memories and gratitude, a testament to the love Bobbie poured into her family throughout her life.
Bobbie was the proud mother of two devoted daughters. Lou Ann Dyson (Gary) lived close by in her hometown and was her constant support, especially in her final days. Cathy Mahaffey-Murphy (Mary) made her home in Colorado, where Bobbie cherished every visit. She especially loved her trips to Colorado and The Rio, where new adventures and sweet family time were always waiting. Bobbie was preceded in death by her son, Bo Mahaffey, who she now rejoices with in heaven. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Calvin Jones Pearson and Ruth Naomi Sharpe; her siblings, Melzie Mitchum, Anlue Little, Irene Jenkins, Junior Pearson, Kenneth Pearson, and J.D. Pearson.
Her joy multiplied in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. She was deeply loved by her granddaughters, Casie Dyson Summers (Mark), Crystal Weddington (Josh), Crissy Heath (Sean), and Cheryl Dellinger (Matt). She poured her heart into 15 great-grandchildren, Stone, Whitley, River (Paige), Lake, Wesli, Sailor, Autumn, Wyatt, Walker-Ann, Samuel, Hunter, Morgan, Colorado, Rider, and Olivia—and she had the special blessing of a great-great-granddaughter, Honey. Each one was a bright light in her life, and each carries forward her strength and love.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the teams at Iredell Memorial Hospital CCU and Atrium CMC Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion. A special thank you is given to Dorothy Mayfield, who lovingly cared for Bobbie in the last years of her life; her home health nurses who stopped by to attend to her, and to her trusted doctors—Dr. Rajper, Dr. Watson, Dr. Brinkley, and Dr. Aryeetey—for their dedication and support.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home of Gary & Lou Ann Dyson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rooted In Grace & Love, 140 Garrison Drive, Statesville, NC 28677
Bobbie will be remembered for her unshakable strength, her fierce independence, her faith, and her love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the countless stories, memories, and in the hearts of generations of those who loved her.
My thoughts are with you and your family at this time; may your memories bring you comfort.
“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.” ~~ Eskimo Proverb
So sorry for those who loved her. Hugs
