Mr. Bryant Keith Setzer, affectionately known to family and friends as “Keefie,” completed his earthly journey on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. He was 59 years old.

Born on June 30, 1966, in Catawba County, Keith was the beloved son of the late Wilbur LaFayette Setzer and Maggie Lorene Shuford Setzer. From an early age, Keith’s joyful personality and love for people shined brightly. His early years were filled with energy, laughter, and a love for sports. A proud graduate of Statesville High School’s Class of 1986, he shined both on and off the field as a talented athlete, playing basketball and football with the same determination and heart that he carried throughout his life.

After high school, Keith worked for many years at Thomasville Furniture in Statesville, where he built lasting friendships and earned respect for his dedication and strong work ethic. Beyond his work, though, it was his spirit of kindness and generosity that made him unforgettable. A true sports enthusiast, Keith was a loyal Duke Blue Devils fan through every basketball season and cheered passionately for his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Whether celebrating a big win or standing by through tough losses, his team spirit never wavered.

More than anything, Keith was known for his heart of gold. He was the kind of man who would give without hesitation, always putting the needs of others before his own. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and anyone in need. He was the one you could count on for a helping hand, a hot meal, or a word of encouragement when you needed it most. He was known for his big smile, his bigger heart, and his ability to make everyone around him feel acknowledged and appreciated. Whether at a family cookout, a reunion, or a quiet evening with friends, Keith was the life of the gathering — laughing, cooking, and making sure everyone had a plate full and a heart even fuller.

Above all, his greatest joy and pride was his son, Bryant DeShawn Setzer. From the moment his son was born, Keith dedicated himself to being a loving and supportive father. Their bond was unbreakable — built on laughter, shared dreams, and unconditional love. He spoke often and proudly of his son and was overjoyed to become a grandfather to Baby Gio, a blessing that brought new light into his life. Whether watching movies, playing games, or just talking about life, he made everyone feel valued and loved. To them, he was more than an uncle; he was a mentor, a friend, and a constant source of love.

In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Setzer; two brothers, Wilbur Setzer and Torie Setzer; and his stepfather, Samuel Mott.

Cherishing his memory are his devoted son, Bryant DeShawn Setzer; his precious grandson, Gio Désean Setzer; four loving sisters, Chrystal Pass, Trinetta Setzer (Sly),Yolanda “Tina” (Steve) Moore and Talaina Moore; two caring brothers, Calvin Setzer and Tyrale Setzer; two uncles, Furman (Ann) Mott and Marvin Setzer; his aunts, Linda Hammons and Annette Anthony; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. His very special friend, Chrissy Pless, was always by his side, offering love, laughter, and companionship. Special cousin, Rita Johnson, also stood faithfully by his side as she provided care, comfort, and faithful support throughout his journey.

Keith’s life reflected love, generosity, and faith. He was a caregiver, a comforter, and a joyful presence to everyone around him. Though his time on earth has ended, his legacy of compassion and kindness will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him. The sentiment expressed in 1 Corinthians 16:14 — “Let all that you do be done in love” — perfectly reflects how Keith lived his life.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Greater Praise Ministries in Statesville, N.C., at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Belmont Cemetery.

Rutledge & Bigham Funeral Home is serving the Setzer family.
