
Ned Thompson Jr., 84, of Statesville, N.C., died Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness.
He was born in Rowland, N.C., on January 30, 1941, to the late Ned Thompson Sr. and Fleta Johnson Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary H. Thompson, and siblings, Mack, Stacey, Ida, Eddie Mack, and Bessie Lee, and a nephew, Melvin Beamon.
Ned worked for Beauty Maid Mills, Aeroquip, and Carin Studio. His favorite hobbies included family time, and especially cooking sweet potato pies and making sweet tea. He loved to watch TV and going to church. He was one of the oldest Deacons at First Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Carsma Morrison of the home, Cynthia Dalton of Mocksville, N.C., and Shemil Dalton of Statesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Tae’ona Thompson, Aleah Morrison, Yaira Morrison, Tishekka Cain, Chad (Shenteea) Dalton, and Cassandra Dalton; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Thompson will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, with the wake beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the funeral starting at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 464 Garfield Street, Statesville, NC 28677. Dr. Kenneth Robinson will officiate.
