Shonnette Lanise Sermons Cannon passed away at her home in Mooresville, N.C., on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Shonnette was born October 20, 1969, to Freddy and Sharon Sermons in Tioga, LA. After Shonnette graduated from Tioga High School in 1987, she went on to study Nursing at Louisiana State University Alexandria.
In 1995, Shonnette married David Cannon and moved to Huntsville, Ala., where she worked as an Orthodontist’s Assistant. Shonnette and David went on to have two children, Payton Alizebeth and Cade Anthony. She and David later divorced.
Shonnette was preceded in death by Payton Cannon, David Cannon, Freddy Sermons, Darrell Sermons and Chasten Sermons. She is survived by her son, Cade Cannon of Mooresville, N.C.; mother, Sharon Livingston; her aunt and uncle, Linda and Gene Prestridge; cousin, Tina Prestridge; and stepsister, Tiffany Robertson all of Louisiana. Also surviving are her nephew, Joshua Sermons and his wife Dannille of Missouri.
Shonnette was smart, funny, sassy, kind, and generous. She loved animals and would panic if the TV went out for more than 17 seconds. She was also very sentimental, and her favorite poem was “Footprints in the Sand”.
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with
the Lord. Scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In
each, I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were
two sets of footprints; other times there was only one.
During the low periods of my life, I could see only one set of
footprints, so I said, “You promised me, Lord, that you would
walk with me always. Why, when I have needed you most,
have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied, “The times when you have seen only one set
of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is serving the family.
Ace was a good guy. Knew him for years. So much tragedy for one family
