Benito Scafidi, 84, of Mooresville, N.C., died April 16, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Benito was born in Palermo, Sicily, and came to America in his 20s.

He loved to cook for his family as well as playing cards and listening to Italian music. He also loved being out in the sun and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lydia; his three daughters, Maria Vaughan (David), Linda Scafidi (Tony Oliphant), and Carmella Richard (Jason); his five grandchildren, Christopher, Gianna, Noah, Isabella and Mia, as well as his sister Lucia Pellegrino. Samantha was a cherished granddaughter to Lydia and Benito.

Viewing will be held at Troutman Funeral Home on Monday, April 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at 11 a.m. at Iredell Memorial Cemetery.
