
Mrs. Cecelia Ann Dalton Moore, 84, of Eastside Drive, Statesville, N.C. passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 7, 2026, following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on August 30, 1941, and was the daughter of the late William Augustus Dalton and Blanch Allison Dalton.
Ann was a graduate of Unity High School, Class of 1959, and attended Barber-Scotia College and graduated from UNC Charlotte. She launched her professional career as Director and managed the former First Baptist Church Daycare and Kindergarten under the late Rev. Dr. JC Harris. Ann worked for Iredell County Department of Social Services for nearly 30 years in family and children services and Social Work with her passion for Foster Care and Adoption. She was a Lifetime Member of Statesville Branch NAACP and a Legacy Builder of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women. Organizational memberships included Rutledge and Bigham Volunteer Support Staff, Malissa Chapter #8 Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary #217, Bristol Road Senior Citizens and the former Owls and Owlettes Social Club.
She was a member of Scotts Chapel United Methodist Church for nearly her entire life. She served in numerous leadership roles, including the Church Choir, United Methodist Women and United Methodist Youth. She touched many multi-generational lives and created timeless lasting memories of fun, fellowship, and the love of serving God and by serving others.
She was married to the love of her life for 67 years with a courtship totaling 70 years to Hubert Moore, who survives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William V. Dalton and Jay Lynn Dalton; her sister, Mary Ethel Dalton McHenry; her son-in-law, Eric Irons; her nieces and nephews, Mary Franklin “Frankie” McHenry Summers, Betty McHenry James, LaFreda Moore Mauney, Gene Carpenter, Charles Tenor, Brady Morrison, and Warren Timothy Johnson.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her husband, Hubert Moore of the home; her daughters, Vermel D. Moore of Statesville and Tijuana Moore Irons of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister-in-law, Alma Jean Moore (Harry Simmons) Morrison; her nephews and nieces, Jimmy (Sarah) McHenry and Brenda Tenor, both of Statesville, Cynthia Rose Johnson of Claremont, Kenneth James of Statesville, Teresa (Curtis) Parker of Raleigh; William A. (Yvonne) Dalton of Raleigh, James (Wanda) Carpenter of Mooresville; Wonder (Tina) Morrison, Denise Drayton, James Moore, Bobby (Georgette) Morrison, Cedric Simmons and Anthony Simmons, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ms. Ann will be remembered as a compassionate, caring, and loving wife, mother, and woman whose presence brought warmth and comfort to so many. She embraced life with joy, grace, and creativity, finding happiness in traveling, music, dancing, and the arts. Known for her sharp sense of style and elegant spirit, she carried herself with confidence and charm wherever she went.
She had many gifts and passions, including cooking, baking, sewing, singing, and enjoying theatre and artistic expression. Whether preparing a meal for family and loved ones, sharing a song in church or freestyle, or creating something with her hands, she gave of herself wholeheartedly. Above all, she was a spiritual and faithful wife, mother, and woman whose love, kindness, and devotion touched the lives of her immediate family and extended family-in-law, friends, and all who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those she loved, especially her devoted husband Hubert, and daughters “Wonnie and Beauty.”
