Charlie Monroe Weatherman Jr., 80, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
Born on January 8, 1946, in Mooresville, he was the son of the late Charlie Monroe Weatherman and Travis Cherry Weatherman. Charlie was a graduate of Mooresville Sr. High School and was a member of the Blue Devil Band. He dedicated his life to Tarheel Tool and Hardware right out of high school in 1964. He and his wife Evelyn became the owners after the retirement of the late Gibbs Ullrich “Red” Melchor. He always enjoyed meeting new people through his work as well as always helping old friends.
He was a long-time member of Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville, where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir. His passions were woodworking, sailing, boating, camping, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He looked forward to Friday night lights where he watched Andy and Brian ump, Collin play football, and Jurney cheer for his alma mater and enjoyed watching Bryce grow up playing baseball.
Over the years Charlie cared and served his community by being a member of the Optimist Club and Civitans. One of his proudest moments was producing the design of the 1973 Town of Mooresville Centennial seal. Charlie had the idea, and his neighbor Hirman Brown did the artwork. The late Selma Burke judged the seal contest and selected them as the winners.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn Melchor Weatherman; his sons, Andy Weatherman (Liz) and Brian Weatherman (Fiona); brother Stark Weatherman; his grandchildren, Jurney Weatherman, Collin Weatherman, and Bryce Weatherman; nephews Brett Weatherman and Mark Weatherman; and great grandson Carson. He is also survived by Andy’s stepchildren, Olivia Hansen, Lillian Hansen, and Maisie Hansen; and Brian’s stepchildren, Sierra Grasskey (Brenna) and Tucker Key (Tori).
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, from 3 to 4 p.m. with a service following at 4 p.m. at Centre Presbyterian Church with Rev. Logan Keck officiating.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Weatherman family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
